Important Tips to Protect your Sprinkler System from Freezes

  1. Run your system manually to water root base of plants. This will help the roots of your plants keep from freezing.
  2. Drain your backflow valve and turn off your water to sprinkler system. You can go to our website and see a picture. www.swis-inc.com. Go to the product information tab and click on irrigation products. The two blue handles can be turned 90 degrees to shut off  water  supply. Then you can drain the test cocks to the right of the bell with a regular screw driver. Once all water is out, close test cocks back to original position. Now you are set for the freeze.
  3. Any exposed pvc pipes above the ground should also be insulated or wrapped and taped.
  4. The handles may be rusted on your backflow valve. If you cannot shut water off at backflow you may have a main isolation shut off valve next to the city meter for the sprinkler system. Turn the isolation valve 90 degrees to shut and then you can drain test cocks at backflow device.
  5. Turning off the controller will not help with freezing pipes outside. You must follow the steps above to avoid possible damage to the pipes.
  6. Call or email for service call if you don't want to handle yourself or have questions.
